Candle and wax melt care
All Waffle & Peg candles are made with coconut and rapeseed wax which is then blended with fragrance oil to create a beautiful slow burning candle. The following tips will help you to make the most of your candle and ensure a long and safe burn
- Trim your wick - candle wicks should be trimmed to 0.5cm before each burn. If the wick if left too long it will burn the candle at a faster rate and will also increase the likelihood of sooting. A pair of sharp scissors or a wick trimmer are perfect to use to keep the wick nicely trimmed.
- Ideally candles should burn for 2-4 hours each time they are lit, during this time they will develop a melt pool, as the candle burns down any wax left on the side of the jar will also melt meaning a lovely even burn every time. A 4 hour burn on the first burn is best to help the candle achieve a full melt pool which will then continue as the candle burns down. Burning for longer than 4 hours is not recommended as it increases the risk of the container overheating, larger flames and mushrooming.
- Always burn candles on a heat resistant surface, away from draughts and flammable materials. Do not leave candles unattended and keep out of the reach of children and animals.
- Natural waxes such as coconut and rapeseed may set with a "rough top" once burnt, this is very normal and has no impact on how the candle will continue to burn. A rough top is just a little reminder that the candle you are burning is made from natural wax.
- Sometimes there may be small carbon deposits on the wicks - known as mushrooming (due to their mushroom like appearance) these can happen in highly scented candles. If you see mushrooming on the end of the wick just give it a trim before the next burn.
Once you have used your candle why not give it a new life? Just pop the jar into a bowl of hot water for 10 minutes, the wax will soften and you will be able to remove it and the wick with a spoon. Just give the jar a gentle wash and it is ready to be used again….
Our wax melts are all made with natural soy wax which is blended with fragrance oil. The following tips will help you to get the most from your melts.
- Always burn wax melts in a suitable wax burner.
- For tealight wax burners use an unscented 2-4 hour tealight.
- Do not burn wax melts for longer than 4 hours.
- Use 1 -2 melts at a time depending on the size of your burner.
- When the fragrance is not as strong as you would like it is best to start with a new melt rather than add another melt. To clean out your burner just use some kitchen paper or cotton wool to soak up the wax then it is ready for your next melt.
- You may see some vapour coming from the melts as they are melting, this is normal and nothing to worry about it is just the fragrance oil being released from the wax.
Our wax burners are designed to be used with 2-4 hour tealights only, longer lasting tealights can cause damage to the burner and can be a fire risk. Please inspect your burner prior to each use for any damage and do not leave unattended when lit.
